Aug 31, 2020 · Fantastic horseback ride to Willis Creek slot canyon We (family of five) and our friends had a great time doing a half-day horseback ride to the Willis Creek slot canyon. Excellent guiding by Hunter, we always felt safe and in good hands. The ride was spectacular and a fantastic experience for all of us unexperienced riders. All of the slot canyons in Zion require backcountry permits, that can be either booked ahead of time or on a first come first serve basis on the day of. We had booked a permit in advance for the Narrows on Saturday, so Friday morning we got up early and headed to the visitors center to see what other canyon we could get a permit for.

Spot on experience from booking in to being dropped back at the Bryce Canyon Inn. Hunter was our guide and did a fantastic job. Willis slot canyon was where we rode through. Saw 2 hikers all morning. Bryce is great to ride through, but you can always walk thorugh it. Having done both, we prefer Willis!

A pleasant two day backpack in southern Capitol Reef NP. Muley Twist Canyon goes south on the western side of Waterpocket Fold for good 20 miles. We walked the lower half from the top of Burr Trail dugway till the confluence with Halls Creek, and up Halls Creek valley to The Post. Here I had a bike and rode it back on the road to pick up the car. Buckskin is a long canyon (known as the longest continuous slot canyon in the world - 14 miles), but you can see some really incredible narrows within a couple miles of the Wire Pass trailhead. What starts off as a tiny crack steadily grows larger from repeat flash floods and erosion over millions of years. The end result is a narrow canyon with very high walls.
